A friend or relative

To prove the six week residency requirement you must submit to the court along with your petition an Affidavit signed and notarized by a third person, usually a friend or relative. This person will attest in the affidavit that you are a genuine resident.

The intake forms have a sheet for filling in information concerning this person. Once this intake sheet is returned to the attorney, she will quickly draft the affidavit and return it to you.

You will then promptly give this affidavit to the third person and have them sign immediately and get it notarized. They can do so here at the office as well and a mobile notary can be arranged.
